Fall Select/Competitive Tryouts - Signup Coming SOON!!!

Select Soccer is a program designed for players to advance their skills and abilities by training and participating in matches at a higher level of competition. This requires a player and their family to make a more significant commitment to the game and their team as compared to our Spring and Fall development programs. Most teams play an indoor schedule and tournaments during the winter. In the spring all teams play in the state Super Liga and participate in tournaments. Positions on teams are limited and granted to players based on the aptitude demonstrated during the annual try-outs. All players must try-out for positions on teams as prior selection to the program does not guarantee subsequent placement. Players not selected into the program in a given year are invited to participate in the CLCF spring development league, further their skills and re-apply in future sessions.
Our annual try-outs are held in the fall. Try-outs are conducted in a small-sided game format monitored by professional coaches from the New England Revolution Academy. Each player is ranked and rated and the recommendations are forwarded to CLCF for final selection and placement. Try-outs take place at the Chafee Sports complex on Hope Rd. Players are expected to attend all scheduled sessions for their age group.
How long is the season?
Training begins in December and most CLCF teams participate in the winter second sessions beginning in middle-late January. All CLCF Select teams participate in spring Super Liga (this is the state youth soccer league). Outdoor soccer starts in early April and ends in June, with some teams having had exceptional seasons in the older age groups (U12 and above) competing for the state cup. In addition to seasonal league play, all teams represent CLCF in a number of tournaments throughout the region. The exact schedule and number of tournaments are determined by the team coaches. How much travel is involved? During the indoor season, players are asked to travel to the indoor site to play their matches, most are in-state, or southern Massachusetts. In spring, a team usually plays four home matches and four away matches. All spring league matches are in-state. Tournaments involve additional travel and may take place out of state, the exact locations and duration will usually be determined by each teams’ coaches.
How much does Select Cost?
There is a $135 per player tuition collected by CLCF to cover administrative and logistic expenses, insurance, training curriculum and program events upon acceptance to the program. In January, CLCF will also be collecting between $100-$110 per player to cover time used in local gymnasiums for winter training (this is an expense that was previously collected by team coaches). Other expenses are determined by individual player situations (i.e., uniforms and equipment), and team needs as determined by the coach, which can include tournaments, indoor leagues and referee fees. All tallied, Select Soccer averages between $400-$500 per player, but expenses can range higher depending on where and how much a team decides to travel.
